Some people suffer from an overactive Ego and we addicts are prisoners to an Ego that resembles something more like the fascist dictator of the mind.

It compares situations from now with terrible scenarios from the past; it always looks backwards because it has no other frame of reference. The Ego, in reality, doesn’t know shit.
