Taryn & Prince Kevin are sent by King Matthew of Athanasia on an important trade mission to the tropical nation of Jabalia. The story begins in Jabalia where Taryn meets Princess Jameela, and quickly becomes friends with her. As they are about to return home, Princess Jameela's father, King Kiato, warns Prince Kevin that a group of pirates has been attacking ships in the area. He must be wary of these pirates on their return journey.

On the first afternoon of the return journey, Taryn is standing on the upper deck enjoying the quiet of the sea when Felix, an older sailor, strikes a conversation with her from the lower deck. Felix takes a shine to the pretty young woman and feels a fatherly affection towards her. But as the sun is setting King Kiato's warning becomes real as their ship is attacked by a band of pirates on the high seas. Tragedy strikes as Prince Kevin is injured while he and Taryn fall overboard during the fight. Felix sees Taryn fall overboard and is overtaken with fear for his new young friend. He is determined to do what he must to rescue her.

Taryn is in a state of shock as she and Prince Kevin fall into the dark water. But what seems to be tragedy turns out to be the greatest adventure of Taryn's life as mermaids bring Taryn and an injured Prince Kevin to their hidden homeland. The mystery deepens when Taryn discovers that the mermaids are keeping a great historic secret about their homeland.

Will Felix be able to lead the crew to defeat the pirates and find Prince Kevin and Taryn? What is this great secret of the mermaids, and how will it impact Taryn and Kevin's future? Adventure on the high seas awaits our young heroine!
