Furbidden Attraction

Louisa grabbed Jack’s arm as he started to step back. His eyes were wide and shining with panic. She gripped his hair and gave him a quick peck.

“Are you ready to meet Daisy?”

“I’ve been ready for thirty-nine weeks,” Jack grinned at her.

He scooped up a cupcake and started to peel off the wrapper. Louisa frowned. Could he…?

“Should you even eat chocolate?” she asked worriedly. “You know, being part dog?”

Jack froze, his mouth open to bite into the pastry. He looked between Louisa and the cupcake with wide eyes. His grin widened as he dissolved into howls of laughter

“What are you even doing here, Carter?” she sighed. She had preferred the silence to this whiny schtick he had going on.

“I got caught on the boundary line with a crowbar.”

“That literally tells me nothing.” Louisa shook her head.

“I was going to bust you out.”

“And your face looks like raw hamburger right now, so fuck off.”

The thought crashed through his skull like a ton of bricks. He caught a glimpse of his wide eyes reflecting in the windshield.

Jack had known that he felt something for Louisa, something powerful. But he hadn’t been ready to call it Love, with a capital L. L-O-V-E.

“A burger? Camille would positively faint at the indecency,” she giggled. “How did you grow up so wonderful when they are so damn awful?”

Jack lurched to a stop. A warm glow grew in his chest. There was something important she needed to see. No, that he wanted her to see.

He rested his forehead against hers. She was… amazing.

“I don’t deserve you,” Jack murmured.

Louisa twined her arms around his neck. “Probably not, but I guess I can settle for your six-pack abs and gorgeous smile. I’m selfless like that.”

“Yes, you’re such a giver,” he chuckled. “Ready to go home?

“I like her,” she grinned.

“You’re going to give me an ulcer,” he sighed. “Stop playing nice with big, scary monsters.”

“But you’re a monster?” Louisa poked at him. She liked him all surly and protective. It was both endearing and entertaining.
