Jesus created a family for the family-less, a spiritual hospital for those in need. Getting angry about prevailing gender ideologies isn’t going to bring trans* people into that family. People don’t need more outrage. They need a fresh encounter with love.

Our truth will not be heard until our grace is felt, because the greatest apologetic for truth is love.

Our desire should be to eliminate any unnecessary barriers that might keep teens from encountering Christ.

You could demand that your hearer immediately adopt your worldview, your theological anthropology, and your interpretation of Genesis 1:27 before you enter into relationship with them. Or you could meet them where they are, as a gesture of respect, in order to walk with them along the path of discipleship.

Trans* people typically view using their pronouns and chosen name as a basic act of courtesy and respect that’s necessary for continuing relationship. Christians should build relational bridges instead of walls, and refusing to use someone’s pronouns might as well be a brick wall the height of Babel’s tower.

You can respect someone, and use language that communicates your respect, without agreeing with them.

One important way Christians can honor others is by seeking to understand.

Christians are not solitary individuals called to follow Jesus on our own and demand that others do the same. We’re a community of radical misfits, called into a motley family filled with grace and truth where no one should walk alone.

Discipleship is a long process.… God doesn’t demand overnight sanctification, and we’re all thankful that he doesn’t.

Faithfulness, not effectiveness, is what Jesus calls us to.
