Isn’t that what you desire, to “escape the corruption in the world [alcohol abuse, gambling, drug addiction, gluttony, etc.] caused by evil desires?” How do you escape these things? The next verses reveal the answer:
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.(verses 5–7)
