Katherine Black

Katherine Black is an American-born author known for her cosy mystery novels. She is the author of A Most Unusual Demise (2024), part of The Most Unusual Mysteries series.

Born in Texas, Katherine Black is a seventh-generation Texan but has spent most of her life in England. With a background in art history, she worked in museums before leaving the field to concentrate on writing.

Black completed her MA in Crime Fiction at the University of East Anglia in 2022. Her first novel, No Fouler Fiend (retitled A Most Unusual Demise), came third in the Yeovil Literary Prize. Her second novel, Lufkin, Texas, was longlisted for the Debut Dagger and a finalist for the Pageturner Award.

Katherine's Most Unusual Mysteries series features May Morrigan, a retired librarian living in the village of Blackheath. In A Most Unusual Demise (2023), May teams up with her friend Fletcher to investigate local murders.

The series continues with A Most Malicious Messenger (2024), where anonymous texts in the village lead to a murder. Katherine's work is known for its blend of mystery and humour, with a focus on amateur sleuths and eccentric characters.

Her novels have gained international acclaim, with A Most Unusual Demise translated into German and published by Lübbe.

Katherine Black continues to write while living in London.
