L. Marie Wood is an American author and screenwriter known for her work in the psychological horror genre. She has received the Golden Stake Award for her novel The Promise Keeper (2012) and the Harold L. Brown Award for her screenplay Home Party (2019).
Wood began writing at the age of five. Over her career, she has authored six novels, 150 short stories, seven feature-length screenplays, and several short screenplays. Her work has appeared in newspapers, anthologies, chapbooks, magazines, and comic books.
Her novel The Promise Keeper won the Golden Stake Award at the International Vampire Film and Arts Festival. She also won Best Horror Screenplay at the NOVA International Film Festival and Best Afrofuturism/Horror/Sci-Fi Screenplay at the Urban Media Makers Film Festival.
Her short story, The Ever After, is part of the Bram Stoker Award Finalist anthology Sycorax's Daughters. Wood has edited five anthologies, run poetry contests, and spoken on panels about the horror genre. Her work was featured in The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror, Vol. 15, and among 100+ Black Women in Horror Fiction.
There is something about Wood's writing that draws the reader into the supernatural world. All About Ghosts comments on her ability to make each sentence almost palpable. Wood does not consciously include female characters and themes but ensures her female characters are strong and independent. She believes that there is a bit of the author's personality in her writing. Her female characters reflect this.
