David Lassman

David Lassman was born in Bath, England, and is a scriptwriter, author, journalist and lecturer. He has appeared many times on television and radio, including BBC's The One Show, Radio 4's The Today Programme, BBC News 24, ITN's News At Ten, CNN International and Good Morning America.He began his writing career in regional newspapers and magazines, before a short-lived acting career saw him appear in films starring Rupert Everett, Timothy Spall, Jeremy Northam and Bob Dylan. After completing a scriptwriting degree at Bournemouth University's Media School, he spent three and a half years living on the Greek Island of Symi, during which time he wrote the novel Freedom's Temple; a modern re-imagining of the Theseus and Minotaur myth.On his return to England, David began writing for the Jane Austen Regency World magazine. An article, Rejecting Jane, taking a light-hearted look at how Jane Austen would have fared in today's publishing industry, generated worldwide media interest in 2007.David is a former director of the International Jane Austen Festival, which takes place in Bath each September, and is now Press & PR Manager for the Jane Austen Centre in the city. In January 2013 David organised a worldwide live readathon of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice to celebrate the bicentennial of its publication. The event brought together more than sixty readers, including several from America, and was broadcast across the globe.He is currently developing a Bath-based television crime series, The Regency Detective, with co-writer Terence James, based on their novel of the same name. The Regency Detective is set in Bath at the time Jane Austen lived there (early 1800s) and as well as many references to the world famous writer's life and works, contains a brief cameo.
