An admired and lauded surgeon climbs to the top of his profession but his callous and questionably moral determination angers colleagues and friends. He becomes a member of the President’s cabinet when he is confronted with personal family tragedy that leads to a conviction for a felony; his world of wealth and privilege collapses. He escapes from prison as a fugitive, constatly on the move to avoid capture by authorities and those he's wronged. To survive and rebuild his life, he befriends strangers that elicit new self-awareness of the value and reward of being huamne.
